UK Home Improvement Quote Checker

Enter a contractor quote, compare it with the same transparent national and regional planning ranges used across UK Home Costs, then check whether the written scope is detailed enough for a fair comparison. The tool runs in your browser and does not ask for contact details.

Quote position

Within the planning range

National baseline uses a 1.00× model factor. Your quote is 3% below the planning midpoint of £76,940.

This is a scope check, not a verdict on the contractor. A quote outside the range can still be reasonable because of property condition, access, specification, VAT, professional fees, structural work, waste, guarantees or exclusions. Compare the written scope line by line before deciding whether a price is high or low.

Scope checklist before you compare quotes

Tick the items that are explicit in the written quote. These checks do not change the planning range; they show how comparable the quote is before you judge the headline total.

Scope clarity: 0/6 checks confirmed (0%). A low score does not make the quote wrong, but it means the headline total is harder to compare reliably.

Questions to ask next

  • Do competing quotes cover the same written scope?
  • Are VAT, waste and access treated consistently?
  • Are materials and finish levels directly comparable?
  • Are provisional sums and exclusions clearly identified?

How to interpret the result

A quote checker can show whether a total sits below, within or above a broad planning range, but it cannot know whether two contractors priced the same scope. Before treating a quote as expensive or suspicious, compare specifications, quantities, VAT, access, waste, professional fees, guarantees and exclusions.

Why scope matters more than one headline price

A lower quote can omit work that appears in a higher quote, while a higher quote can include better materials, more preparation or difficult access. Use the range position, boundary gap and checklist as prompts for questions rather than a reason to reject a contractor automatically.
